About Reclaiming Counseling
Pronouns: she/her
Hi! I’m Allison.
By now you’ve guessed that I’m a mental health counselor, but I’m also a cat lover, spouse, and jigsaw puzzler with a past life in music and theatre (a real person!).
I started my therapy practice so I could focus on helping people like you break free from disordered eating and reconnect with life, whether that means trying that new Mexican restaurant you’ve been eyeing or going to social events without being consumed by food and body thoughts.
I’m also passionate about helping you reclaim your identity from oppressive systems (like sexism, hustle culture, or anti-fat bias) that may have left you feeling drained or disconnected from your worth.
Origin Story
My reasons for these passions are personal. As early as elementary school, I struggled with confidence and body image, never thinking I was as good/pretty/loved as my peers and hating myself for my perceived shortcomings.
I tried to change my eating, my body, and even my personality, hoping I would finally feel “enough,” or at least be able to cope with life’s challenges.
But instead of the happiness and confidence society promised, I found myself depressed and stuck on the restrict/binge merry-go-round. I’d dug myself into a hole I couldn’t climb out of until I found therapists who showed me a different way.
With their support I learned to…
Accept who I truly am
Set boundaries that honored my needs
Be present with the people I love
Enjoy food without guilt or strings attached
Stop fighting against my body
Of course, things weren’t (and aren’t) always smooth sailing. But I began to realize that different parts of me could find room to breathe, and that I could desire more — for myself and for others. What could we accomplish if we stopped waiting until we were “perfect” first?
My own healing gave me a passion for helping others break free from the pressures of oppressive systems so they can focus on what truly matters.
I spent over a decade fighting with food, my body, and my sense of worth before finding healing. Now, I’m committed to helping you loosen those struggles and reconnect with what you love, so you can live with greater purpose and grace.
